Upgrade
Now that we have the unofficial official word, I'm feeling a lot more secure about this move to the Bay area actually happening. "They" called Kip this morning to let him know that he passed his psych and his medical, as long as he gets his vision corrected. I'm interested to see what Kip will look like with glasses! So, barring any Lens Crafters/Costco optometry disasters, Kip will get glasses next week and we'll all breathe a sigh of relief as the final hoops are jumped through and the final "you're hired" letter comes. Seriously - what job requires three 1 - 3 hour interviews, a written test, a skills test, a 3 hour medical examination, a 4 hour psych evaluation, a fitting for thousands of dollars worth of gear, and glasses, -before- ever hiring the person? This is crazy. The hiring process alone must cost tens of thousands for the department.
So, it looks like we'll be upgrading. What we'll be leaving behind (don't worry, Pepper will come with us):

Two bedrooms, 1 bath, run down, no dishwasher, no inside washer/dryer, no garage, no storage apartment that we've lived in for 9 years. We've done what we could with the inside, but it will be nice to have more to work with. And it will be nice not to have to wheel over the dishwasher and the washer/dryer every time they need to be used. Especially since there are only 2 sinks in the apartment, and the appliances make them unavailable for hours.
Here's a house we're seriously looking at in the south part of Tracy. Keep in mind, it's a mere $700 per month more than we're paying now. How sad is that?

"Two Story, 6 Bed Rooms, 3 Full Bath, 3000 Sq. Ft. Living Space, 6800 Sq. Ft. Lot Size,Family room, Living room, Dinning area , upstairs laundry room, fully landscaped backyard and front Yard, his and her walk-in closet in Master Bed Room, Gas burning fireplace in the living room. Kitchen has ceramic tile counter tops with lots of cabinets. Large backyard with two side yard access, central heating system, very clean with neutral tone paint.
Walking distance to best Jefferson’s School, Parks and easy access to ACE Train Station! movie theater, shopping center and parks."
Hehehehehe. We're excited.
So, here are some pictures of our trip, to give you an idea of where we'll be living.

This is Kyra with Bowdie (because she has a bow), not to be confused with Barry (also a girl). Or, more accurately Bear-y.

This is a shot of another community we've been considering - Mountain House. The houses are huge and close together. This cramped, cookie-cutter housing is not our end goal. We'll probably only rent a house like this for a couple of years, until we can afford to buy in one of the communities we're more interested in (somewhere like Pleasanton, or if we make enough, Palo Alto).

Kip thinking about the possibilities as we drive over the bay to check out Palo Alto. If you could read his thoughts, it would be something along the lines of "hehehehe.... hehehe... hehehehe."

The peninsula has a lot more open space (golf courses?) than I thought it would have.

This is what the hills surrounding the East Bay area look like.
And finally, for my friends in Wisconsin and other frozen parts of the country:

Happy cows come from California.
